The Gottfredson family settled in Utah in 1858, mostly in the Richfield and Manti area. Jens and Karen Jensen Gottfredon joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and emigrated to the United States in 1855 with their children, which included Peter Gottfredson. In 1858, they trekked with a handcart company to the Salt Lake Valley, and eventually settled in Richfield, Utah.
